Biology Honors Seminar (BILD 96) is a weekly freshman seminar providing BioScholars program students with the opportunity to learn more about research and scholarly activities available to them and acquaints them with UC San Diego faculty members. The course will promote student’s participation in research and other scholarly activities on campus.
The seminar allows freshmen an opportunity to explore a series of useful topics related to the research or medical fields in a very low-stress Pass/No-Pass class environment:
- how to read and interpret scientific research papers
- information about relevant UCSD biology-relate student organizations and opportunities
- access to networking with faculty speakers and upperclassmen
- develop presentation and public speaking skills
This is an example of a unique research paper that BILD 96 analyzed in 2019-2020!

Student Testimonials
“BILD 96 was a seminar that was really engaging, and I enjoyed learning about the world of research through the journeys of people with careers in industry or academia. Using what I learned in BILD 96, I was able to get an undergrad research position the summer after my first year!”
Ben Berzon, Class of 2024
